NEWSLETTER SPRING 2009

With a regular committment to four or five UK galleries, plus the Majlis in Dubai, it’s always exciting, at the end of the year, for us to get John’s Annual Inkberrow Exhibition set up in our home village.

2008 was our 25th year, so to mark the occasion, and the fact the John is known to many as ‘Harris the Brush’, we had a local celebrity, Mr Andrew Harris of the world famous Harris Brush makers to open the exhibition. It was great fun, well attended and a success too.

A full range of John’s work, from village views and wildlife paintings to big atmospheric landscapes was on show and John was delighted with the response, especially to his more experimental semi-abstract work in which he has recently been using a less familiar technique on a favourite subject: changing weather and light effects on the landscape.

You’ll see from the ’Severn Series’ page on this website, John has a continuing fascination with this subject and his use of mixed media adds extra interest.

John has recently collaborated with an old pal from our Malawi days, Dr John Tarbit, to illustrate, in watercolour, his book of short stories and historical vignettes based on Nyasaland. A fund-raiser for the NKHUDZI BAY COMMUNITY TRUST, who publish the book, it will help pay for practical skills education for youngsters from the Malawi lakeshore village of Mwenyama. The book is to be launched in May.

John always enjoys being introduced to places where people have spotted ‘a Harris landscape’, and he’s frequently busy with commissioned work on their particular views. A regularly updated collection of John’s work is always to be found at BIRTIES, Friar St. Worcester, and at WOLD GALLERIES, Oxford St, Moreton in Marsh. A few paintings at BEVERE VIVIS, Bevere Lane, Worcs, at the GLASS HOUSE, Arden Industrial Estate, Alcester and at MARTINS GALLERY, Montpellier Parade, Cheltenham. Also, at all of the galleries mentioned in the following calendar. You are welcome too, to view ongoing work at our Worcestershire home.

Please ring or e-mail if you need further info.

With best wishes,

Stella Harris
